June 28 – 30, 2002, University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus, St. Paul, MN
V.I.S.I.O.N’s first conference, “From Silence to Speech,” brought together over 100 participants from Minnesota and Wisconsin to network and learn more about other social change agents within the Hmong community. Breakout sessions included:
- Resources to determine the best college to attend
- Resumé writing and professional development
- A conversation on Shamanism and Christianity, acculturation; sexual assault, pop culture and its effects on the Hmong community, and opening discussions on sexuality within the Hmong community.
Attendees left the conference informed on issues Hmong young adults were facing and the tools, knowledge, and solutions to constructively address social issues.
